This week's Comics Ads start with this pair of ads from the April, 1976 cover-dated Marvel books... and I'll talk first about the hang-ups!
The two hang-ups there, Spidey and Galen (from the Planet of the Apes TV series), were the only two Marvel hang-ups that I'm aware of... for the DC characters, they did Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. These are still pretty collectible today!
Next, the top ad... for the Super Hero Stick-Ons! Those of you who have been reading the Random Acts of Geekery (and the spin-off blogs) are probably well aware that I really wish these awesome stickers would be reissued! Heck, I'd be willing to pay 10 times that amount for all 18 of the stickers there!
Next, an ad from the June 1968 DC books... first, issue 2 of the short-lived Secret Six book... and second, the issue of Brave and the Bold pairing Batman with Wonder Woman and Batgirl! If you've ever read the latter book (either in the original comic or as reprinted in a Showcase Presents volume), you should be well aware of how ridiculous the story is! Basically, in order to capture Copperhead, Batman decides to enlist Diana and Babs' help by having them pretend to be in love with him... and it backfires when they appear to really fall in love with him! As ridiculous as the story is (at least, as presented in this book), I can't help but think it could make for a very fun episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold!
Our third ad is another DC house ad from the same month's books! First is the ad for Flash #180, cover by Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, who also did the art inside! Also on this ad is promo for Showcase #75, with the debut of Steve Skeates and Steve Ditko's Hawk and the Dove!
